Terms of Use
1. Who Can Use the App
Users must be 18+ to access the platform. The service targets medical students, healthcare trainees, residents, clinicians, and educators in the United States. The company does not warrant availability outside the US. The app is not designed for children under 13; any personal information inadvertently collected from users under 13 will be promptly deleted upon discovery.
2. Your Account
Account holders bear responsibility for protecting their login credentials and all activities occurring under their accounts. Users must provide accurate registration information and immediately report unauthorized account access to support.
3. What the App Does — and Doesn't Do
Socratic AI functions as an educational platform for medical learning and clinical simulation powered by artificial intelligence. It supports practice but does not replace clinical judgment. The platform explicitly does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. AI-generated responses may contain inaccuracies, gaps, or outdated information and should never inform actual patient care decisions. Users must independently verify all output before acting upon it.
4. Acceptable Use
The app is restricted to lawful educational purposes. Prohibited activities include using the platform for actual patient care, submitting real patient health information or PHI, posting illegal content, attempting to reverse-engineer AI systems, cheating on exams, harassing others, gaining unauthorized access, and deploying bots or scripts without written permission. Violation may result in account suspension or termination.
5. Content You Submit
Users retain ownership of submitted content. By submitting material, users grant the company a limited license to operate and deliver the app. This license persists throughout the account's active status and terminates upon account closure or institutional deletion, per the privacy policy. Personal information is not sold.
6. Our Content
The company owns the app, designs, scoring systems, and related technology. Users may access output solely for personal educational purposes; ownership of app technology does not transfer to users.
7. Subscriptions and Billing
Access is provided through institutional licensing by universities, medical schools, hospitals, or similar organizations. Billing inquiries should be directed to institutional administrators. Access continues while the institution maintains an active license and the user remains authorized; institutions may modify or revoke access per their policies. The app does not support in-app purchases through app stores; access comes through institutional or authorized accounts.
8. Termination
By Socratic AI: The company may suspend or terminate access for terms violations, business reasons, or legal requirements, with reasonable advance notice where practicable.
By Institution: Institutions may modify, suspend, or revoke access per their policies; Socratic AI bears no responsibility for institutional access decisions.
By User: Users may request personal data deletion by emailing support; verified requests process within 45 days, subject to legal retention obligations or institutional agreements.
Effect: Termination immediately ends app usage rights. Data handling follows the privacy policy and applicable institutional agreements.
9. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available" with no warranties regarding accuracy, reliability, fitness, uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or educational outcomes. State law variations apply where applicable.
10. Limitation of Liability
Socratic AI's total liability per individual user claim is capped at $100. The company excludes liability for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including data loss or access interruption. Institutional liability is governed by signed agreements, not these terms. State law variations apply where applicable.
11. Disputes
Delaware law governs these terms. Informal resolution should be attempted first by contacting legal@getsocratic.ai. Unresolved disputes proceed to binding arbitration through the American Arbitration Association under Consumer Arbitration Rules, conducted individually on a remote basis if requested. Class action participation is waived. Users may opt out of arbitration within 30 days by emailing legal@getsocratic.ai with "Arbitration Opt-Out" in the subject line, including name, account email, role, institution, and explicit opt-out statement. Opt-out does not affect accounts. Opting out requires disputes to be resolved exclusively in Wilmington, Delaware state or federal courts.
12. Changes to These Terms
The company may update terms periodically, with material changes communicated via email or in-app notice. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance; users disagreeing with updates must cease use before the date takes effect.
